Apicoectomy and Root End Fillings
An apicoectomy is typically indicated when an infection occurs in the area where the root of your tooth meets with your periodontal bone. This condition may or may not be painful but without treatment, the infection may spread.
During an apicoectomy, Dr. Kennedy will make an incision in your gum tissue to access the infection and carefully remove any affected tissue. The very tip of your tooth’s root will also be removed and a small filling is often placed to seal the end of the root canal. In time, bone will heal back around the end of the root and the filling.
